“We stayed closer than against Napoli”
Liverpool were effective. Shortly after the break, Darwin Núñez scored 0-2 and Harvey Elliott pulled away the last hope at Ajax with 0-3, which created next to nothing in the remainder of the match.
Schreuder: “Then Liverpool showed how good and experienced they are. The difference in height became big after the break, while we managed to keep up in the first half.”
Ajax prevented the result from becoming even more painful, as happened at Napoli (1-6). “We have remained more united as a team than against Napoli,” said Schreuder. “In the long term I see good developments like that. We are already doing better in the competition, only the Champions League is a different level.”
And that level is still too high for Ajax, Schreuder acknowledged. “We can play in the Champions League, but this group with Napoli and Liverpool is still too good for us.”
