Schreuder regrets saying goodbye to Blind: ‘Should have said goodbye to him’ | Football

Alfred Schreuder is disappointed that he did not personally say goodbye to Daley Blind. The Ajax coach admits this on Tuesday in conversation with The Telegraph.

“I blame myself for not going down at De Toekomst when Daley was there to say hello,” says the Ajax coach about the club icon’s farewell at the club’s training complex.

Blind suddenly left Ajax at the end of December, for which he played 333 matches spread over two periods. Schreuder previously admitted that he had not spoken to Blind since FC Emmen-Ajax (3-3) on November 12, a week before the World Cup.

“We were in a meeting and weren’t sure if he was coming,” says Schreuder. “Then he was there. If I am then critical of myself, I should certainly have gone to him.”

Schreuder does not want to discuss the relationship between him and Blind in conversation with the newspaper. It’s no secret that things didn’t get along between the two, although Blind didn’t want to show the back of his tongue either.

“I will certainly tell my side of the story later,” Blind told the NOS. After his departure from Ajax, Bayern Munich surprisingly reported for the defender. Blind has signed a contract with the German record champion until the end of the season.

“This is closed for me. The club and Daley have solved it,” says Schreuder, who referred Blind to the bench mainly in the last weeks of 2022. The trainer does confirm that Blind was no longer welcome on the training field after the World Cup.

Schreuder is currently preparing with Ajax for the Classic against Feyenoord. The trainer is under pressure after five Eredivisie matches without a win. In the event of a defeat on Sunday in De Kuip, the gap with leader Feyenoord will increase to eight points.
