Schools update plans for safe return to school on the Central Coast – KION546

CENTRAL COSTA, Calif. (KMUV) With the return to face-to-face classes just around the corner, schools on the Central Coast are already updating their safety plans. These guides highlight the use of face masks, in some cases social distancing and monitoring of students with symptoms of covid-19.

Safety plans for returning to face-to-face classes are a requirement that all schools in the state must meet, and districts must post them on their websites and on one created by the state of California.

Returning to class this fall will resemble normality before the pandemic, as spacers between students and social distancing are no longer required, just the mask.

“For my part, the girls have had anxiety and depression,” says Maria, a mother from Watsonville, who says that it is necessary to return to face-to-face classes and agrees with the publication of safety plans and the use of the masks.

Parents can find their child’s school safety plan on the state website https://schools.covid19.ca.gov/

Each school must publish its plan by August 4. Some plans have not been updated since last year.

“Physical security is going to start at home, so children are going to have to make an application to detect symptoms of Covid-19 before arriving at school,” says Pajaro Valley School District Superintendent, Michelle Rodriguez.

The superintendent of this district, which has 33 schools, assures that they will reduce between 3 and 5 students in classes, maintain a social distancing of 3 feet inside the classrooms and will train teachers, parents and students on physical safety and emotional.

But in Monterey County, the 22 schools in the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District will no longer implement healthy distance.

“Many people have asked us if we are going to check the temperature of the students, the recommendation of Monterey County is that the mask is the main thing,” said the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources, Manuel Nunez.

Other school districts such as Alisal in Salinas, confirmed to us that their protocols did not change since February of this year because they will maintain the use of face masks and in some cases the healthy distance.

The main recommendation for everyone is that children with symptoms of Covid-19 undergo a coronavirus test and wait 10 days for the symptoms to pass.
