Schools – Stuttgart – Stuttgart wants to test air purifiers at selected schools – education

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – Because of the corona pandemic, the city of Stuttgart wants to equip classrooms that cannot be well ventilated with air purifiers on a trial basis. Ten rooms at nine schools of different types were selected in which the devices are to be used, as the state capital announced on Thursday. It is an experiment that is being scientifically accompanied by the University of Stuttgart.

The devices should not convey a false sense of security, said the head of the health department, Stefan Ehehalt. In order to prevent the spread of viruses, ventilating in schools has top priority. According to Ehehalt, air purifiers can be a useful addition.

The devices can therefore filter dust, pollen and other particles from the air, but do not supply fresh air. The experiment should show how effective the filters are and which types of devices are suitable for which rooms. Power consumption and possible dangers emanating from the devices should also play a role.

On the basis of the investigation, it should be decided whether air cleaning devices should be used in the future. In addition, it should be able to better estimate which costs the city could incur as a result. Around 12,500 classrooms were inspected in advance for the experiment. The cleaning equipment should be installed in December.
