Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – According to a study by the Association for Education and Upbringing (VBE), only 15 percent of schools in Baden-Württemberg are completely barrier-free. According to the association, this is the worst value since 2015. The state association published the results of the study today in the state parliament’s media center. 500 teachers from the southwest took part in the Forsa survey.

Accordingly, almost half of all schools are still not barrier-free. According to the association, the figure for completely barrier-free primary schools is eleven percent. According to the chairman of the regional association, Gerhard Brand, accessibility is not always related to stepless access and an elevator. Children with an autism spectrum disorder need soundproof rooms, which are only available in 15 percent of schools.

The aim of inclusion should be to enable children with a disability to participate equally in social life. “If this fails because of the accessibility of the school building, then we don’t really need to talk about inclusion,” Brand said before the study was presented.
