Offenbach (dpa / lhe) – The number of infections is too high: In the city and in the Offenbach district there will be no expansion of alternating classes in the coming week. Classes continue to take place from home, the city reported on Tuesday about the administrative staff’s decision. The Offenbach district also refrains from giving pupils from grade 7 before Easter until Maundy Thursday, and offering attendance time on at least one day per week.

A stable infection situation is a prerequisite for the step from distance learning to alternating instruction. In Offenbach, the so-called incidence is increasing and is currently 175.8 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the past seven days. This does not allow the planned further opening of Offenbach schools, it said.

“We do not want to take any risks by opening the schools further, so that the schools do not get even fuller,” said school department head Paul-Gerhard Weiß. Health officer Sabine Groß spoke of a significant increase in infections in the younger age groups, especially among adolescents from 15 to 19 years of age. “With our decision we want to keep the good status quo at the schools and not yet send any additional students to face-to-face classes.”
