Hundreds of fish fell from the sky in a small Australian town.

According to Australian ABC News on the 23rd (local time), on the 19th, hundreds of fish rained down from the sky in Rajamanu, a small village located near the Tanami Desert in Australia.

“I saw a big storm heading towards my town,” said Andrew Johnson Zapananga, a local city council member.

Residents who witnessed the scene described the sudden rain of fish falling from the sky onto the ground and onto the roof. They were amazed, saying, “Fish fell from the sky.”

One resident said, “Fish about the size of two fingers fell,” and many of them were not dead. Then he added, “It seems to be God’s blessing.”

Japanangka said, “People gathered near the fish to watch. “The kids are picking up these fish and keeping them in jars or tanks,” he said. “It was the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen.”

This fish is a sequined perch, a freshwater freshwater fish common in Australia, and was found to have lived in a river about 500 km away.

This is the fourth time such a weather phenomenon has occurred in this town. First reported in 1974, the phenomenon also occurred in 2004 and 2010.

Similar phenomena have been observed in other regions. In 2020, fish rain also fell in Yowa, Queensland, 950 km west of Brisbane.

Fish curator Michael Hammer, who has investigated similar phenomena in the past, said, “Most of them were witnessed when local floods occurred in small waterholes.” said.

Ichthyologist Jeff Johnson said, “It’s difficult to pull a fish this size out of the water and keep it afloat for a long time, but something like this actually happened.” He said the phenomenon was on the rise across Australia and that “the next time it happens we will investigate it properly”.
