Schools – Minister of Education calls for people to wear masks voluntarily – education

Hanover (dpa / lni) – Lower Saxony’s Minister of Education, Grant Hendrik Tonne, is calling for people to wear masks voluntarily after the school holidays. Wearing a mask after the Easter holidays is certainly helpful, said the SPD politician in an interview with the “Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung” published on Monday. Tonne emphasized: “Any wearing is voluntary, but on the other hand everyone has gotten used to it. The mask does not hurt and offers you and others protection.”

The minister criticized the Infection Protection Act, which left no room to react to a possible deterioration in the situation. “There is basically no longer a requirement to wear a mask and I think that’s very short-sighted. The mask has recently helped us a lot to keep the schools open.” The categorical rejection of a mask requirement is a mistake.

Around 1.1 million schoolchildren in the state have to go back to school on Wednesday. A mask requirement then no longer applies. After the holidays, all students have to test themselves for the corona virus every day for eight school days in a row, after which this obligation no longer applies. Pupils in the federal state can then receive three corona test kits per week in May if they want to test themselves voluntarily. They usually get the tests from the school.
