Stuttgart – In 2020, the state of Baden-Württemberg is subsidizing 78 school building projects with a total of 100 million euros from municipal financial equalization funds. Three projects benefit from this in the constituency of Wangen-Illertal. The renovation of the Aulendorf school center is funded with € 213,000, the large district town of Wangen receives € 88,000 for the expansion of the Berger Höhe elementary school, and the new construction of the SBBZ (special educational and advisory center) Isny is supported with € 4.0 million.
“With these investments, the Ministry of Culture not only supports the schools, but also relieves the municipalities. With the grants from the state, we create modern learning and living spaces, ”say MPs Raimund Haser (CDU) and Petra Krebs (Greens). “The municipalities need the money urgently, especially in this difficult phase.”
Compared to the previous year, the state is providing eight million euros more in grants. Added to this are around EUR 14.95 million for 31 construction projects for all-day schools. The Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of the Interior have agreed on this with the municipal state associations (Association of Cities in Baden-Württemberg, Association of Baden-Württemberg, District Association of Baden-Württemberg).
Notes on school construction funding:
• The introduction of new pedagogical concepts in schools and the more heterogeneous student body lead to changed requirements for a school building. This also includes the expansion of all-day offers and the challenges of inclusion.
• In the 2020/21 double budget, a total of 400 million euros has been earmarked for funding school building and school renovation in the municipal investment fund. With the amendment of the administrative regulation for school building subsidies – VwV SchulBau – the funding framework was standardized (see attachment). A further impetus in favor of modern learning and living spaces at schools in BW comes from the total of 400 million euros.
• The state of Baden-Württemberg grants a standard grant of 33 percent of the construction costs recognized as eligible within the framework of the school construction subsidy.
• A building cost subsidy for all-day schools requires all-day operation on at least three days of the week with at least seven hours a day and an offer for lunch supervised by the school authority. The school must have an educational concept for full-time operation. The additional rooms and areas required for the food, care and leisure areas are eligible for funding.
