Schools – Hanover – VBE calls for corona registers for schools and daycare centers – education

Hanover (dpa / lni) – The Association for Education and Upbringing (VBE) in Lower Saxony has called for the creation of a nationwide corona register to record infection data in schools and daycare centers. These could then serve as reliable decision-making aids for Corona measures in schools and kindergartens, the VBE announced on Monday in Hanover. So far there has only been a diffuse picture of the actual infection rate in schools.

The association criticized the refusal of the federal states and Lower Saxony to implement measures required by the federal government such as halving classes or a mask requirement for all pupils as well as distance rules in school transport. This is a game for time, but time is running out, said VBE state chairman Franz-Josef Meyer.

“Politicians can no longer sit and watch as the virus spreads rapidly in schools,” said Meyer. Prime Minister Stephan Weil (SPD) must make infection protection a top priority. “Politicians now have to prove their ability to act.” The health of teachers and students should not be jeopardized lightly.

During the deliberations between the federal and state governments on Monday evening to contain the corona virus, it became apparent that the federal states wanted to defuse federal plans for further measures. Unlike in the original version of the federal government, the point schools practically disappeared completely from the draft for the federal states. Originally the requirement for a mask requirement for all pupils and teachers in class and on the school premises was originally included, but the state version only states that keeping schools and care facilities open in classroom teaching has “high political priority”.
