Schools – Hanover – teachers are still waiting for work laptops – education

Braunschweig (dpa / lni) – According to the Greens, digitization in Lower Saxony’s schools is not progressing. That was “sobering”, said the head of the parliamentary group, Julia Willie Hamburg, of the “Braunschweiger Zeitung” (Friday) about a response from the state government to a request from the Greens. “The teachers urgently need laptops, especially in the current Corona situation that is a priority,” said the politician of the newspaper.

The question was about the question: “How are teachers equipped with work laptops?” In its response, the Ministry of Culture referred to the decision to “intensify efforts to expand digital teaching, learning and communication opportunities for schools, pupils and teachers”. This also includes digital devices for teachers.

According to the ministry, under the leadership of Grant Hendrik Tonne (SPD), an agreement is currently being negotiated between the federal and state governments to promote official loan equipment for teachers. A funding guideline for implementation in Lower Saxony should then be developed on this basis. This also includes a public hearing, followed by the application process and procurement. That is not going fast enough for the Greens.

“The quick purchase of laptops promised by Minister Tonne threatens to become another chapter in the headline policy of our state government,” complained the Green parliamentary leader. “However, these announcements are of little help to schools if the Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs does not do its homework on digitization at the required speed.”
