Schools – Hamburg – Hamburg’s students start the new school year – education

Hamburg (dpa / lno) – After around six weeks of summer vacation, Hamburg’s students are starting the new school year today – for the second time under Corona conditions. There are still compulsory tests and masks for children and adolescents, as well as an extensive hygiene and ventilation concept. A total of around 257,000 boys and girls are expected at the 376 state and 97 private schools in the Hanseatic city. The first graders and preschoolers don’t have their big day until next Tuesday or Wednesday.

As in previous years, the number of pupils has increased, this time by around 4,100. Accordingly, the authority increased the number of educational positions in state schools – mostly teachers – by 510 to almost 19,300. For the first time, the teachers are to be equipped with service tablets. 20,000 devices have been ordered.

Five new schools are starting up: one elementary school each in HafenCity, one in Harburg and one in Bramfeld, as well as the Rotherbaum high school and the HafenCity campus district school. Two Catholic primary schools in St. Georg and Ottensen, however, were closed.
