Erfurt (dpa / th) – No more lessons with students in the classroom: From Wednesday on, students all over Thuringia will have to study their school material at home due to the corona pandemic. The face-to-face teaching in schools will be suspended, said Education Minister Helmut Holter (left) on Sunday. The regulation applies from December 16 to 22 and also after the Christmas holidays from January 4 to 8.
There are exceptions for class work and exams that cannot be postponed for graduation in 2021, according to the ministry. These may take place in compliance with the hygiene regulations. For children in grades 1 to 6 and the special needs schools, emergency care is offered if necessary. According to the notification, advance registration is required.
With the regulations, however, further delays in the learning process of the school year are inevitable, the ministry admitted. Therefore, concepts are being worked on how the problem can be tackled after the turn of the year.
Concrete statements about care in the kindergartens should still come in the course of Sunday. The state cabinet will take decisions on this in the early afternoon, said the Ministry of Education. Prior to this, Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow (left) had already said on Sunday that kindergartens would proceed in the same way as schools. So at least emergency care for daycare children should also be possible there.
In Thuringia, it was previously planned that all students would switch to home learning from December 21st until the regular start of the Christmas holidays (December 23rd) and from January 4th to 10th. This regulation was only decided on Thursday and is now being changed again due to the high number of infections.
“I take this step with the clear expectation that there must now be a hard lockdown in other areas of society,” said Holter. He argued that there should be additional opportunities for parents to take paid leave. According to the ministry, the relevant decisions are currently being prepared by the states and the federal government. Holter also appealed to the students themselves to avoid as many direct contacts as possible and to use the digital possibilities for this.
