Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) – The secondary schools are to receive the first of 1.8 million self-tests from this Tuesday, which will be provided by the state until the Easter holidays. Until the beginning of the Easter holidays on March 29, only one single Corona self-test per head is planned for the students. The Ministry of Education in Düsseldorf announced this on Monday. The school staff should therefore supervise the implementation of the voluntary self-tests.
“After the school has given advance notice, the self-tests should generally be carried out at the start of classes in the class or course association,” explained School State Secretary Mathias Richter in a school email. Particular attention should be paid to clean hands and ventilated rooms. In the event of a positive rapid test, the school management should inform the parents or training companies or socio-educational institutions and decide whether the student concerned has to be sent home or picked up from school. Buses and trains should never be used for the journey home.
The further school opening in the third corona wave without the announced self-tests for students from the first day caused severe criticism. The GEW union accuses the state government of not having done its homework. The SPD opposition also sees omissions. The state parenting of the grammar schools calls on Prime Minister Armin Laschet (CDU) to make the school topic a top priority because the cooperation between the ministries for schools and health is apparently not working well. School Minister Yvonne Gebauer (FDP) emphasized that the schools would primarily be provided with tests and thus get even more security for teaching.
The teachers’ association VBE spoke of another stress test for the schools. “It is to be welcomed that self-tests are made available to the schools, but now they have to implement new requirements again at very short notice,” explained VBE Regional Director Stefan Behlau. In addition to the ongoing changeover models, it is now important to organize the test offers, inform parents and students and carry out tests. “The schools’ talent for improvisation is once again in demand.” After the Easter break, a test strategy “that deserves the name” should be in place. A test opportunity per week for the students could only represent a “test run”.
