Minister of Education and Science Ilga Šuplinska (New Conservative Party) Latvijas Radio explained how many computers in general could be taken to schools and what the order of distribution would be: so what [uzvar] procurement and the current price of computers in the e-system. The price of computers can range from 600 to 800 euros.

It will also determine from 6000 to 8000 units, how many will this computer have.

The principle of computer distribution is related to active schools. What do I mean by that? The fact that in the informative report on secondary education institutions we also assess the number of students and the development perspective of the educational institution. And in turn, they are accompanied by primary schools, where we see that this school is also sustainable in terms of administrative-territorial reform. This will be the principle of proportionality.

If, as expected, the procurement is announced next week, then, in principle, the first computers, as indicated in the procurement itself, must be in forty days. ‘

CONTEXT:

Government in mid-September to the Ministry of Education and Science granted EUR 3.9 millionto improve technological provision in schools. It is planned that a total of 425 schools will receive computers, which will be able to use them both to modernize the daily learning process and to provide distance learning.

During an emergency that was announced Covid-19 and was in force from 12 March to 9 June, a number of restrictions and prohibitions were imposed. Teaching in schools also took place remotely. Already after the end of the school year, the situation with the spread of Covid-19 in Latvia improved and a number of restrictions were in place softened.

The Ministry of Education and Science (MES) was preparing for face-to-face schooling in the autumn. Municipalities themselves will have to decide, in which epidemiological situation to discontinue face – to – face learning.

The Ministry has developed three scenarios school work during Covid-19. At the beginning of the school year, the information collected by the MES on the choice of teaching models in schools showed that most students will start this school year in person. Meanwhile survey showsthat most parents want full-time education but justify not sending their children to school for fear of Covid-19.
