Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) – According to the Association of Cities in North Rhine-Westphalia, schools hardly benefit from federal funding for ventilation systems. “Many school buildings do not have a system that can be used to influence the air temperature, humidity and air quality and which can be further improved with additional filters,” said the chief executive of the NRW City Council, Helmut Dedy, of the “Rheinische Post” (Wednesday). The acquisition of mobile ventilation systems is not funded. Therefore, the funding guideline is only relevant for some public buildings, but not for school buildings.

In addition, there is often a lack of space to install additional filters in existing systems. Technical and cost-intensive expenditures cannot be met by financially weaker municipalities, because the federal funding provides for an own share of 60 percent, continues Dedy. He demanded: “Here the federal government must find solutions to reduce the own contribution.”
