Schools will be closed on Friday, September 27. The school units will not operate throughout Greece, as it has become known, the day in question is “Panhellenic School Sports Day».
On September 27, instead of classes, various sports activities and events will take place.
In the relevant circular, the Directorate of Physical Education of the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports invites all primary and secondary school units to implement sports actions/activities and/or events, which can be held inside and/or outside the school premises, throughout school hours. This will result in highlighting the benefits and importance of physical activity, physical exercise and sport for health and improving quality of life.
The ministry’s common motto for this particular day is: “We exercise together. We give quality to Life».
Activities in schools on September 27
Indicatively, there are also proposed activities, in order for all students to participate on September 27, when schools will be closed. These exercises are independent of the age, physical abilities and skills of the children.
- Health and Wellness Route: walking and/or running for 2024 meters.
- “Athlopedia” competitions of team and individual sports.
- “Green” sports activities with the inclusion of an environmental element (e.g. exploring green spaces near the school site and using them for physical exercise and play, or combining an environmental activity with a sports activity of the students’ choice).
- Cooperation with environmental organizations for the organization of sports or other outdoor activities.
- Creation of “Activity Stations” with sports activities (e.g. balance beam, rope, hoops, etc.).
- Planning and implementation of relevant work plans (projects) by the students with a sports theme.
- Organizing indoor leagues and/or relay races, creating obstacle courses.
- Selection of traditional games from European and/or other countries.
- Teaching a game or a dance by the students to their teachers to play/dance together.
- Creating a themed poster for the sports day and displaying the posters in a common area of the school.
- Visiting sports centers or other safe sports areas.
- Cooperation with other Bodies for the organization of joint actions (e.g. events with a sports theme).
- Organization of joint sports activities in collaboration with neighboring school units or exchange of best sports practices/activities with other school units in our country and/or abroad.
- Invitation of distinguished sportsmen/athletes for the presentation of sports and/or discussion, exchange of thoughts and awarding of any student winners in Panhellenic School Games.
- Invitation of a Doctor for an open discussion and thematic center “The relationship between Health and Sports”, in order to be the trigger for further examination of the matter.
- First aid seminar by specialized agencies.
- Informing parents/members of the local community by students about the benefits of physical activity, physical exercise and sports.
- Capture the way of celebrating Sports Day in a written or other communication text, create a collective volume (e.g. e-book, create a PPT, etc.), post on the website of the school unit and publish in the school newspaper, exchange texts with other school units etc.
