From Monday onwards, all pupils should go back to class – and must observe various hygiene rules there. The BZ asked around in schools in Breisgau and Dreisamtal.
Ehrenkirchen
The safety of the pupils has top priority, says Gerd Günther, Rector of the Jengerschule. But he also says: “It will be a great challenge to comply with the hygiene rules.” He doesn’t believe that all the rules can be followed one hundred percent. Because the classes would be full and it would be inevitable that the students would come into contact with one another in the corridor. Even if a mask is required there.
And: “How strong the ventilation will be when it gets cold remains to be seen.” Günther shares the skepticism of the teachers’ union that shock ventilation will be difficult or even impossible due to the way the classrooms are constructed. In Ehrenkirchen, too, the classroom windows are only on one side of the room. Günther doubts that all students will have the written declaration of their legal guardians with them on Monday. But he doesn’t want to send anyone home. The school authority, the Ehrenkirchen community, behaves in an exemplary manner, says Günther. A large delivery of masks had arrived, soap and disinfectant were sufficiently available. In addition, they are cleaned more often than in normal times.
Günther worries that individual locations of the school could possibly be closed if corona cases occur. “I would like to avoid that,” says the rector.
Merzhausen
The rector of the Hexentalschule, Claudia Hoch, feels well prepared for the start of school. With a new concept, the specifications are to be adhered to. The school forms class clusters with 45 children each and sends them staggered into the break. In the playground, the clusters are assigned certain areas, which are then changed, because not every corner is equally attractive. They had good experiences with this even before the summer vacation, reports Hoch. Intermittent ventilation is possible in Merzhausen because skylights can be opened in the hallways. And the classroom windows could also be opened. “With this we can achieve a certain amount of air circulation,” says Hoch. The windows should only be opened under supervision. That is why the students are picked up by the teachers in the playground and are not allowed to be alone in the room while the room is being ventilated.
The cleaning concept was already adjusted before the holidays …
