Schleswig-Holstein’s students should be able to test themselves for Covid-19 infection in schools on a weekly basis until the Easter holidays. The first batch of tests has been announced for this week.
Education Minister Karin Prien (CDU) announced on Tuesday that the first batch of 230,000 Roche self-tests will be delivered to the school authorities on Thursday (March 18). The first antigen self-tests are planned for high school students in their final years so that they can test themselves before the upcoming exams. The ministry recommends testing yourself on the eve of the exams. The informative value of the risk of infection extends to the following morning.
Classes in school should be made safer
With the corona self-tests, the state government wants to make teaching in schools safer. According to the Ministry of Health, the schools were informed about the test campaign on Monday. Prien emphasized that after the first delivery on Thursday, a further 380,000 tests would come to the schools, so that all students in Schleswig-Holstein would receive a test offer in the coming week. In addition to the self-tests at school, teachers and other people working in schools can have themselves tested in pharmacies, by general practitioners or at the Red Cross test centers.
Supervision planned mainly by volunteers
The supervision of the test offer in schools should primarily be carried out by volunteers. This could be parents, teachers or other school staff. A comprehensive information package for schoolchildren, parents and schools is currently being put together, which should also be available on Thursday.
