Images show that a scaffolding has also collapsed. The fire brigade says it has freed ‘a dozen’ people. These are construction workers who were working on the construction site at the time. There is contact with people who are still under the rubble.
The school is located in the Nieuw Zuid district, in the southwest of the city and not far from the Scheldt. The cause of the collapse is currently unknown. More research on this will follow later.
‘Give us space’
“Give us the necessary space to work,” the fire brigade rushed to request on Twitter. “We strongly ask to stay away from the area, including local residents.” The fire brigade also uses drones and dogs. “The situation is very unstable and that makes liberations and searches very difficult,” reports the fire brigade.
