School shooting Finland, 12 year olds still injured in hospital

(ANSA) – HELSINKI, 08 APR – The two twelve-year-olds injured in class by a student of the same age last week in Vantaa, the fourth largest city in Finland, north of Helsinki, still remain in hospital and one of the two is still in critical condition. This was announced by the Finnish police. “One of the victims remains in critical condition,” the police said, adding that the condition of the second girl had improved enough to be interviewed by investigators. The suspect who killed a student and injured two classmates on April 2 confessed to police that he shot his classmates because he was being harassed. According to the police, his act was planned. An investigation into murder and attempted murder has been opened. The weapon used belonged to a relative, investigators indicated last week, but not to a member of the family circle, however, the police officer in charge of the investigation, Marko Särkkä, specified. The twelve-year-old who shot “took possession of the weapon without permission”, he added. However, the suspect cannot be held criminally responsible because he is under fifteen years old and has been entrusted to social services. The child killer had been attending the Viertola school since the beginning of the year, which welcomes 800 pupils aged between seven and fifteen. (HANDLE).
