School sends 1650 students home after exam stunt with hay bales

A secondary school in Oldenzaal has sent 1650 students home after an exam stunt that got out of hand. The exam candidates from the Potskampstraat location of the Twents Carmel College had brought hay bales into the school with tractors. They had strewn the entire cafeteria with hay and toilet paper.

At the stunt, images of which can be seen on TikTok, the police were also present, who addressed the students on the tractors. Because the students also disrupted classes in other parts of the school, 500 students were sent home. As a precaution, the school also did the same with the 1150 students from the other location in Oldenzaal. It was feared that unrest would break out there too.

Tubantia received a message that the school sent to the parents of students. In it, the school writes: “There were various unannounced actions in the school. To ensure peace, we immediately stopped all classes.” A communications officer informed the newspaper that the exam stunt was noisier and more extreme than usual. According to her, this had to do with the lifting of the corona measures.

North Brabant school evacuated by smoke bomb

Elsewhere in the country there were also exam stunts by students who celebrated their last lesson today. For example, students of the Scala College in Alphen aan den Rijn were shot into the air with a kind of fairground attraction on bungee cords, reports Alphens.nl.

In Roosendaal, the Norbertus Gertrudis Lyceum was evacuated by order of the fire brigade after exam students had set off a smoke bomb in the building, report Broadcasting Brabant.

According to a letter to parents of the students, the day started festively “with balloons, confetti and soap slides in the cloakroom”, but ended abruptly when a smoke bomb went off around 10:30 am. All classes were canceled for the rest of the day.
