Every day Iris Martínez picks up her little girl from school in upper Manhattan. After the shooting at an elementary school in Texas, she has left her nervous and worried.
“The children are going to study and for it to happen like this is something very terrifying,” said Iris. “I think they have to have more security, they have to identify themselves and they should have metal detectors in every school.”
At Gregorio Luperón High School in Upper Manhattan, safety is a priority.
“The guards, if they see someone suspicious, they will check you, there are always two, there is one at the front desk and on each floor,” said Derek Rodríguez, a student.
And although in NYC, many of the 1,600 public schools in the city have metal detectors and security agents from the Department of Education are constantly vigilant and vigilant, parents are concerned about the ease with which in this country you can buy a firearm.
“School security should be increased more because they are endangering the lives of innocent people and (of) teachers as well,” said Rosana Chatman.
In this year the authorities have recovered 20 weapons and thousands of dangerous objects.
