After the state summit with the Chancellor on Tuesday, it is clear: Schools in Hamburg will also remain restricted – until the end of January. Until then, the so-called attendance requirement is lifted.
Most of the students in Hamburg are currently in distance learning, which means that parents can decide whether their children should study in school or at home. For children who study face-to-face at school, there are learning and support options between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Every fifth child goes to primary school
After the Christmas school holidays it became clear that the grammar schools are almost empty. In contrast, almost every fifth child goes to primary school. “Currently 19.98 percent of pupils take part in face-to-face classes in elementary schools, 6.43 percent in district schools, 14.37 percent in special schools and 3.02 percent in high schools,” said the spokesman for the school authority.
Mayor Peter Tschentscher (SPD) Appealed again on Tuesday in the Hamburg Journal: Those who can should leave their children at home. The schools should organize lessons for these children too.
Problems with programs and video conferencing
However, there are obviously considerable difficulties with this: According to NDR information, there have been failures in the IServ computer program and video conferences in many schools in the past few days. The reason was overloaded servers.
Left school expert Sabine Boeddinghaus spoke of a smooth false start after the holidays. The school authorities regretted the problems: Partly it was due to old school servers, partly to a provider. They have now ordered additional server capacities there.
