Schools for people with mental and physical disabilities will reopen next Monday. There is, however, considerable criticism of the approach from the Education and Training Association.
Parents can decide whether or not to bring their children back into classroom teaching. The teachers should also return to class. According to BZ information, there are definitely concerns about the decision of the Ministry of Education in the teaching staff. There is a lack of understanding about why these risk groups in particular should be the first to be taught together again in times of the corona pandemic. An association also sharply criticized the opening.
Head of school administration: digital lessons are difficult to achieve
The head of the state education authority in Freiburg Werner Nagel justified the opening with three main points. On the one hand, increased infection protection measures would already apply at these schools, since the lessons there are not comparable to learning at mainstream schools. On the other hand, the families of the students in the pandemic are even more challenged and the classroom lessons would mean massive relief for them. “Furthermore, digital lessons hardly work for students with intellectual disabilities and are difficult to implement,” says Nagel.
Association: Risk of infection for particularly vulnerable group
The Association of Education and Upbringing Baden-Württemberg (VBE) has sharply criticized the school opening. “These students in particular often belong to the risk group and usually cannot wear protective masks, but have to be looked after without the necessary safety distance,” says chairman Gerhard Brand. A postponement of the opening, the provision of certified FFP2 masks, air purifiers and rapid tests are required. In addition, it must be prevented that the pupils are collected in minibuses from a large catchment area and sit close together for a long time. VBE also requires early vaccination offers for schoolchildren and staff.
These schools open in the Freiburg region
The Günterstal and Richard Mittermaier Schools are to open in the city of Freiburg, and the Malteser School in Heitersheim and the Hochschwarzwald Support Center in Titisee-Neustadt in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district. In the Emmendingen district this applies to the Eduard Spranger School and the Esther Weber School. In the state education authority in Freiburg it is emphasized that not all special needs education and advice centers open from Monday, but only the schools with a focus on mental and physical / motor development (Gent and Kment). For example, part of the state SBBZ See St. Michael in Waldkirch opens.-
