School Newspaper Award 2024: Award for creative talents

Five Thuringian school newspaper projects received the 2024 school newspaper award from the Thuringian Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports A ceremonial award ceremony was held on October 24 at the ministry’s building in Erfurt. Editorial teams from Friedrichroda, Gera, Gotha, Sondershausen and Weimar won. This year, the sponsorship award of Funke Mediengruppe Thuringia goes to Kaltenwestheim. The Thuringian School Newspaper Award honors the outstanding achievements of students who have set an extraordinary example of creativity, teamwork and commitment with their school newspapers.

The school newspapers not only offer interesting insights into school life, but also deal with important social issues. The editors have put a lot of passion and creativity into writing articles that are both informative and engaging.

Education Minister Helmut Holter explains: “School newspapers are valuable media that give students the opportunity to raise their voices and express their views and share their ideas with the school public,” said Minister Holter. “School newspapers also represent freedom of the press in practice. We are proud of the enthusiasm of our students and the different topics they covered.”

The jury of the school newspaper award praised the high quality of the submitted work and the creative approach of young journalists. “It’s impressive to see the amount of passion and creativity that goes into each school newspaper. They are a true reflection of the talents and ideas of our students.

This time the awards are given to the “Überblick” from the Perthes-Gymnasium Friedrichroda, the “Moskito” from the state aid center “Lucas Cranach” Gotha, the “BlattSalat * mitPlan” from the TGS Jenaplanschule Weimar, “Montis Sommerzeitung” from Pfortner School in Gera and the online Newspaper “Schollitimes” from the state high school “Geschwister Scholl” in Sondershausen.

The school newspaperKnaller” from Kaltenwestheim State Primary School received a sponsorship award from Funke Medien Thuringia.

Minister Holter congratulates everyone involved in this success and encourages the students to continue to pursue their creative ideas and raise their voices.

All winning newspapers will automatically take part in the national competition.
