Düsseldorf It’s a strong year group that starts school in North Rhine-Westphalia at the beginning of August. The new school minister has not yet said what the first graders might expect from corona restrictions.
In the new school year, around 171,000 first graders will start in North Rhine-Westphalia. This was announced by the Ministry of Education on request. This means that around 5,000 more “I-Dötzchen” start their school careers than a year earlier.

Most of the approximately 2.5 million students will return to their schools on August 10th after six and a half weeks of summer vacation. For the ABC shooters, the first day of school is on August 10th or 11th. However, school enrollment must be scheduled for the second day of school after the summer holidays at the latest.

“The first day of school is a very special day for all children and their families. A new and formative phase of life begins when you start school,” emphasized the new Minister of Education, Dorothee Feller (CDU). On their way through school life, she wishes all first graders “a lot of joy and success, exciting lessons with teachers who can inspire them, and always a great togetherness with their classmates”.

It is clear that the children and young people will be taught in their schools again and not in distance classes at home. That was not always guaranteed in the pandemic years. At the beginning of April, the obligation to wear masks in schools in NRW was dropped and shortly afterwards, at the beginning of the Easter holidays, the obligation to carry out tests.

Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst (CDU) recently emphasized: “There should no longer be widespread closures of daycare centers and schools.” According to the current federal legal situation, it is no longer possible to close schools, Feller added. The new school minister has set up a Corona coordination staff in her house, in which the Ministry of Health was immediately involved for shorter decision-making processes.
