Facing dropout is not only a question of education, but also of equity and social development.
As the new school year begins, a shadow persists over Peruvian education: student dropout. Data from the Ministry of Education (Minedu) show that in 2021, 6.3% of students left classrooms, pointing to an urgent need for strategies to reverse this trend and avoid social exclusion.
“The reasons behind dropping out of school are diverse and complex,” says César Dávila, promoter of CEBA César Vallejo. “From family problems to academic deficiencies, it is vital to address this reality to improve the future opportunities of these young people.”
Facing dropout is not only a question of education, but also of equity and social development. Students who leave the classroom face greater obstacles to accessing decent jobs and building a prosperous future.
According to Dávila, to reintegrate these young people into the educational system, comprehensive strategies must be implemented:
- Identify Causes: Understanding the reasons behind abandonment is the first step to preventing it. This implies an interdisciplinary approach and the design of specific measures.
- Set Goals and Track: Knowing the individual aspirations of students is essential to maintain their motivation and provide them with appropriate support. Constant communication and academic monitoring are essential for this purpose.
- Offer Comprehensive Support: Both academically and emotionally, this support is crucial to helping young people overcome the challenges they face. Flexibility and empathy are key in this process.
- Adapt to Needs: From virtual classes to flexible schedules, it is necessary to adjust to the reality of students and offer them quality educational resources that facilitate their learning.
“It is imperative to guarantee access to education, regardless of the individual circumstances of each student,” insists Dávila. “Only in this way can we build a more inclusive and promising future for all.”
