School Districts in New Jersey and New York Close Early for Total Solar Eclipse – Full List Here

The most anticipated event of the year is just around the corner.

The total solar eclipse is next Monday, April 8 and our area will be the scene to enjoy it.

Due to the magnitude of the event, in which safety measures must be taken to protect eyes, some schools in New York and New Jersey are following recommendations from the states to close earlier so as not to harm the children you may be in. outside during the time of the celestial phenomenon and look without protection.

In New York, the call is for regions where an avalanche of visitors is expected, since a partial eclipse will barely be visible in the city.

In New Jersey, at least 4 school districts will allow students to dismiss at 1:30 in the afternoon.

New Jersey

  • Shore Regional High School District in Monmouth County: The school said in a statement that students will be dismissed on April 8 at 1:30 pm due to the solar eclipse. They also canceled extracurricular activities during the eclipse period.
  • Livingston School District in Essex County: Also announced they would be dismissing earlier in the day.
  • Penssauken School District: In a letter the director stated that on April 8 they will have classes until noon for all students and sports and extracurricular activities will be canceled.
  • Cherry Hill Public Schools Community: In a letter to parents informing them of changes in dismissal times for the day of the eclipse. Grades PreK-5 will be dismissed at 1 pm, grades 6-8 at 12:15 pm, and grades 9-12 at 11:45 am.
  • The Shore Regional High School District, based in Long Branch, will close at 1:30 p.m. It was written in a letter.
  • NY

    • The Buffalo City School District, which is the second largest district in the state, will have the day off.
    • Niagara Falls City School District and Lockport City School District: Canceled classes.
    • The Liverpool Central School District will close on the day of the eclipse.
    • Niagara Falls City School District: Classes canceled.
    • Lockport City School District: Classes canceled.
    • The Liverpool Central School District will close campus on eclipse day.
