On International Food Day, proposals were exhibited to improve nutrition in schools, in collaboration with the Qali Warma program.
During the Healthy Eating Fair for International Food Day, the School Feeding Committees (CAE) of various institutions presented innovative proposals to promote healthy eating in students. Initiatives included transforming staples into options like cookies, cakes and nutritious dips.
“The committees are made up of the school director, teachers and parents. At Qali Warma we deliver non-perishable, long-lasting food, but these alone are not enough for complete preparation. The CAE seek to make the dishes more attractive for children, taking advantage of the fact that the food enters through sight first,” explained Enrique Ordoñez López, head of the Qali Warma territorial unit.
Five CAEs participated in the fair, with the winner being the educational institution José Antonio Encinas Franco de Huaytire, which stood out for its integration of biogardens in the learning and feeding process. In total, Qali Warma supplies 480 educational institutions in Tacna, benefiting 39 thousand students in the region.
Ordoñez also reported that the food acquisition process for 2025 has already begun. “We are ensuring that students receive quality food, appropriate to their nutritional needs. The work of parents is also essential to ensure that the products are used within their validity and contribute to a complete diet,” he concluded.
