The dietitian nutritionist from Boissetaine, Nathalie Joyard, led nutrition and sensory awareness workshops in kindergarten. The goal was to introduce all the pupils from small to large section to the different varieties of seasonal fruits and vegetables. These events were supervised by the Reseda association (association for the coordination of health networks in the Alesian basin) as part of the local food-health project.
Thus, all the classes in small groups first watched a slide show showing fruits and vegetables with the plant or tree from which they come. Then, they could see and touch each fruit and vegetable presented to taste them afterwards. The reactions of the children were different according to the tastes and taste sensations of each but necessarily rich in learning and discovery. This allows to remove “a priori” between the visual, the touch and the taste of food. These workshops aim to introduce children from an early age to breast feeding behavior and to familiarize themselves with everyday food products.
The students were also made aware of anti-waste, since all the remaining fruit was used to concoct a natural fruit juice, a delight for the taste buds. The ongoing partnership with elementary school classes from the start of the school holidays with a complete and varied program on food.
