School bag donation for 264 needy children

On Thursday, May 19, 2022, 19 preschool children from the city daycare center “Sonnenschein” at Vetschauer Straße 39a in Prohlis will receive their new school bags. They are part of a fundraising campaign by Aufwind Kinder- und Jugendfonds Dresden e. V., with which 264 Dresden preschool children from 14 Dresden day care centers will receive a school bag this year. Sabine Bibas, Head of the Day Care Office, and Mareile Flatt-Baier, Chairwoman of the Aufwind Kinder- und Jugendfonds Dresden e. V., and association member Dr. Petra Lauber hand over the satchels to the girls and boys.

The fundraising campaign is being carried out by Aufwind Kinder- und Jugendfonds Dresden e. V. for the fifth time. In this way, the association wants to enable children from low-income families to start school on an equal footing with their future classmates. The office for child day care and the in-house day-care centers of the state capital of Dresden have supported the initiative from the start. In particular, families in Dresden’s day-care centers in the “Growing up with social responsibility” action program benefit from the campaign. “Compared to other facilities, we see the greatest need for support in the day-care centers in the action program,” says Sabine Bibas. It is therefore only logical to start with the action there.

Due to the pandemic, the Aufwind association was once again unable to organize a benefit event to collect donations last year. It is thanks to a donation from the Dresden company Novaled that satchels can still be bought for this year’s school beginners. In a vote, the employees expressly decided to support the satchel project.

The association Aufwind Kinder- und Jugendfonds Dresden e. V. has been dedicated to supporting disadvantaged children for over 20 years, especially in the field of education. “The first day of school should be something special for every child. Having your own satchel is not only ergonomically important, it also boosts self-esteem and gives disadvantaged children a good start to their school days,” says Dr. Petra Lauber, who is responsible for the organization and logistics of the project. The Pelikan Group supports the campaign significantly and supplies the satchels in the required quantity. The association distributes them directly to the day-care centers.
