Berlin will continue its efforts to preserve the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine, Scholz said.
The German Federal Grid Agency is not guided by policy when making decisions regarding Nord Stream 2, as the project is commercial. This was announced on Thursday, December 16, by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz during a joint press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron, which was broadcast on YouTube.
He stressed that private investments were made in the pipeline. The Federal Chancellor also noted that the issue of compliance of Nord Stream 2 with European energy legislation is currently being considered.
“This will be decided without being guided by politics at all,” he said.
Scholz pointed out that the certification procedure for Nord Stream 2 requires a lot of consultations, “but the process has started.”
Earlier it was reported that the German Federal Network Agency will make a decision on Nord Stream-2 in the second half of 2022.
