Scholz called the condition for lifting sanctions against Russia

Scholz promised further support to Ukraine

Russian President Vladimir Putin has not thought through his entire “operation” in Ukraine to the end, said the German Chancellor.

The sanctions imposed on Russia for the war against Ukraine will not be lifted until Moscow concludes a peace agreement with Kyiv. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said this in an interview with the TV channel CDF on Monday, May 2.

“Without signing a peace agreement with Ukraine, we will not remove (from Russia – ed.) sanctions,” Scholz said.

According to him, Russian President Vladimir Putin miscalculated when he hoped to get the territory of Ukraine, then declare a cessation of hostilities and wait for the lifting of Western sanctions.

“He (Putin – ed.) did not think through his entire” operation “in Ukraine to the end. He did not think that Ukraine would resist so much. We will not lift sanctions until he agrees with Ukraine, and he will not achieve this by dictated peace” Scholz added.

The Chancellor assured that Germany would continue to support Ukraine with money, humanitarian aid and arms supplies, “as do many other European countries.”

Earlier on Wednesday, it became known that the EU authorities approached the approval the sixth package of sanctions forgiving Russia and Belarus for unleashing a war against Ukraine. It is expected that it will spell out the mechanism for imposing an embargo on oil from the Russian Federation.
