The left has its candidate for the upcoming mayoral election in Dresden. They send André Schollbach, the chairman of the left in the city council, into the race for the executive chair in Dresden’s city hall. The first election process will take place on June 12th.
André Schollbach was unanimously elected on Monday evening. “He brings the drive and determination to change our city for the better.”
The 43-year-old was born in Meissen and is the father of two children. He has been active in politics since 1995 and has been a member of Dresden City Council since 1999. In 2007 he became chairman of the Left faction in the city council. He has also been working as a lawyer since 2010.
Regarding his candidacy, he said: “Dresden can and must be managed better. Together with the people, I want to make our city fairer. Dresden should be a lovely city where life is good.” Schollbach puts social peace on his agenda and does not want to forget the “little people”, the self-employed and creative people in the consequences of the Corona crisis. He is committed to affordable housing.
“The climate issue and the social issue must be considered together. The clinic must remain in the hands of the city and be strengthened. For our city to develop well, we need more cohesion, a sense of community and justice,” said Schollbach.
