Rommel Pacheco, new head of Conade, went this afternoon to the installation of the Sports Commission of the Senate of the Republic, where he assured that athletes’ scholarships will not be reduced for now.
“I gave the instruction that everything related to the modification of economic stimuli be stopped until each case is reviewed in a personalized manner. I have received several calls from selected teams and we are not going to abandon them,” said the former diver.
The Yucatecan, who had already been part of the Sports Commission in the Chamber of Deputies, began to put together his work team. The world long jump medalist Luis Rivera and the former pentathlete Óscar Soto will occupy the Subdirectorate of Sports Quality.
“Both are prepared, have studies and have worked in public administration, I am sure that they will do a very transparent job,” he explained.
Pacheco informed the senators about the need to reform the Physical Culture and Sports Law.
“I hope to work hand in hand with you because the Physical Culture Law requires an update for the benefit of those selected,” commented the world medalist.
The new President’s mandate is clear, Rommel assured. “Support high performance and the massification of sport; Also take advantage of sporting events like the upcoming Soccer World Cup because they have a great impact. Regarding the budget, we still don’t know how much they will give us but we will adjust.”
