Anna Karolína Schmiedlová is playing for a bronze medal today, in the semi-finals of the 2024 Olympics in Paris she was not enough for Vekic

Although the Czech fans were saddened by the elimination of Barbora Krejčíková in the quarter-finals, Schmiedl’s sensational performance in Paris we have deep respect.

The twenty-nine-year-old tennis player, who had to worry about the Olympic nomination for a long time, in the past days she exposed the stopwatch to more favorites. Even before Krejčíková, Beatriz Haddad Maia eliminated this year’s two-time Grand Slam finalist Jasmine Paolini.

The winning streak was only broken by yesterday’s semi-final, at the end of which Schmiedlová she caught the canary from Vekič. With the Croatian tennis player, who has not yet played a single WTA final on clay, the Slovakian lost in one hour and seven minutes with the result 4:6 and 0:6.

The first set was even, it was decided by a single break in the fifth game. However, Vekič did not let her opponent get a single break point on her serves, which foreshadowed the course of the second set. Schmiedlová during her three service games she played only two fifteens. The Croatian countered with an almost flawless game, there could be no doubt about the winner.

The native of Košice, who won three titles on the WTA Tour between 2015 and 2018, finished the match with a 60% first serve success rate (57% of points), ten winners and 15 unforced errors. Nothing to pay, compared to the previous rounds, her performance went down.

Despite the clear loss, Schmiedlová has taken care of her motivation today – she can fight the first tennis medal for independent Slovakia. Of our former federal partners, in the past only Miloslav Mečíř won the bronze medal in the men’s doubles alongside Milan Šrejber in 1988 in Seoul.

Does it jingle, doesn’t it jingle? No matter how today’s match turns out, Schmiedlová has already become one of the most prominent figures Slovak Olympic expedition (the link leads to Slovak sites – Czechs cannot bet or register with Slovak operators).

Iga Swiatek lost for the first time after 25 matches in Paris

She won her first title at Roland Garros already in 2020, but the streak of invincibility did not begin until the start of the French Open 2022. Since then, Swiatek has won 25 matches in a row in Paris – than yesterday she sensationally fell out with Zheng. The result of 2:6 and 5:7 belongs to the biggest surprises of this year’s competitions under five rings.

The shock is all the greater because Swiatek has won all six of her previous encounters with the Chinese woman – including two on clay. This time though the world number one did not start the match well at all, losing three of her four service games in the first set. Zheng, on the other hand, made only one mistake.

At the beginning of the second act, the tables turned, Swiatek thanks to two breaks created a 4-0 lead. However, she soon lost the lead when she hit only one fifth from each of the next two serves. At 5:5, Polka lost 15:40 on her serve, Zheng used the second of the offered break points and then converted the first match point on service.

The loss is bitter – and special. Since her breakthrough year in 2020, the now 23-year-old native of Warsaw has lost only seven matches on clay until yesterday.

That on the previous ones Summer Olympics In Tokyo, she was eliminated in the second round? Moving the competitions to the slowest surface should have paved the way for the Polish star to win a medal.

Swiatek may indeed still get one, it just will be of a different metal than many expected. Even so, it would be a success of historic proportions, Poland has not yet taken home a tennis medal from the Olympics. Will that change after today?

Tennis LOH 2024: Schmiedl and Swiatek Olympics – H2H balance, statistics, results, head-to-head matches

They haven’t had that honor together yet, Schmiedlová and Swiateková will play together first match against each other. In the singles statistics at the 2024 Olympic Games, the Slovakian has so far recorded a score of 8:3 in sets, the balance of the Polish opponent is identical before the last round.

The difference before the race for the first tennis medal for their countries, however, we can find in the mindset; while Schmiedl’s entry into the bronze medal match is a huge and pleasant surprise, Swiatek went to the locker room in tears yesterday – completely understandable.

Tip for the result: Swiatek – Schmiedlová today, tennis at the Olympic Games Paris 2024 (August 2, singles for women, match for 3rd place)

Returning to the court after a semi-final loss, that’s absolutely for female tennis players unusual situation. In the editorial office, we expect that Swiatek will probably hold her own as the favorite, but at least at the beginning of the match, she could still be bound by the bitterness of yesterday’s defeat.

That is why us in Tipsport menu took advantage of the opportunity for Schmiedlová to play at least three games in the first set.

We could be wrong, Swiatek is a clay phenom. Under the given circumstances, however, we see value in such a tip. The Olympic competition in women’s singles has many surprises in store for us, maybe even in the bronze medal match. Have a good time at his place.

TIP: Schmiedlová will win at least 3 games in the 1st set see the complete Tipsport offer HERE
