Iga Swiatek lost for the first time after 25 matches in Paris
She won her first title at Roland Garros already in 2020, but the streak of invincibility did not begin until the start of the French Open 2022. Since then, Swiatek has won 25 matches in a row in Paris – than yesterday she sensationally fell out with Zheng. The result of 2:6 and 5:7 belongs to the biggest surprises of this year’s competitions under five rings.
The shock is all the greater because Swiatek has won all six of her previous encounters with the Chinese woman – including two on clay. This time though the world number one did not start the match well at all, losing three of her four service games in the first set. Zheng, on the other hand, made only one mistake.

At the beginning of the second act, the tables turned, Swiatek thanks to two breaks created a 4-0 lead. However, she soon lost the lead when she hit only one fifth from each of the next two serves.
