“Cluttered” atmosphere at the Schmelzi Flohmi in Grenchen
77 vendors took part in the 12th edition of the “Schmelzi Flohmi” on the Grenchen market square on Saturday.

The flea market, organized by the Schmelzi Foundation, invited visitors to browse and rummage through all sorts of useful and less useful items. But that is strictly a matter of opinion.
In any case, setting up a household would not have been a problem this Saturday: everything was available from household goods and appliances, clothing and textiles, furniture, CDs and DVDs to toys, games, child seats or even a remote-controlled model boat for 680 francs.
“Since everything is getting more expensive, many people come to look at the flea market first,” explains René Degen (Derendingen), who himself organizes 35 flea markets a year in the region (including five in Grenchen) and who this time is a guest with his stand. The flea market season went well this year, explains Degen.

The material mostly comes from clearing houses, also from the Schmelzi Foundation, which also sells goods from its own workshop. “In the end we don’t earn anything from it, but it is important for us to be present in the public eye and our residents’ commitment to the flea market is also very popular,” explains Schmelzi manager Berit Ducommun. “It also makes them proud when they can sell something.”
The flea market is still working well, Ducommun confirms, but this year saw slightly fewer participants than a year ago. This may have something to do with the general flea market boom, which was not so noticeable 15 years ago when the first Schmelzi-Flohmi took place. (at.)
