FC Red Bull Salzburg finds itself in an unusually difficult situation.
With Sturm Graz‘s championship title last season, the “Bulls”‘ dominance of over a decade in the Austrian football landscape came to an end.
Since then, the Mozartstadt team has faltered, most recently having to settle for a goalless draw at Wolfsberger AC and currently fifth in the table, with two fewer games under their belt.
Reiter denies Schmadtke rumors

For managing director Stephan Reiter, there is still no reason to make personnel changes, as he said in an interview with “Krone” now makes it clear: “At this point in time I see absolutely no reason to change anything.”
In the past few days there have been repeated rumors about a personnel change at Austria’s runner-up. In addition to head coach Pepijn Lijnders, sports director Bernhard Seonbuchner also came under increasing criticism.
However, Reiter vehemently denies the rumor about a possible successor for Seonbuchner in the person of Jörg Schmadtke (all information >>>), who was active in the same position at Liverpool FC until the beginning of February.
“Football is a complex business”
“I can clearly deny that, there are no discussions about it either,” said Reiter.
“Of course, as managing director, it is my duty that we look around Europe to see what the best structure is, regardless of people. The sport and competitions are evolving, so we are watching how other clubs operate to best manage the business “Maybe new structures are necessary,” adds the managing director.
So at the moment he is still sticking with Seonbuchner and Lijnders. The only question is, how much longer? If the usual successes for the “Bulls” do not return soon, then, in addition to the already sharp decline in average attendance, Reiter’s patience could also run out.
