Everything has become more expensive – and nothing is like it was before Corona: That’s why the organizers of the Darmstadt Schlossgrabenfest have to sell tickets for the first time this year in order to be able to finance the four-day open-air party at Pentecost.

Darmstadt ⋅ If Howard Carpendale, as the schedule envisages, is actually on stage in Darmstadt around 10 p.m. on the Friday before Pentecost and sings his “Hello again”, everything would actually have been said. Because hardly any other song could go better with the resurrection of the Schlossgrabenfest, which was canceled twice due to the corona pandemic. According to their own statements, the event team around Frank Grossmann and Thiemo Gutfried want to pick up where they left off in 2019 with the new edition of the popular city festival.

More than 60 bands will be able to be heard on four days and nights on three stages in the heart of Darmstadt – i.e. on Friedensplatz and Karolinenplatz as well as the section between Landgraf-Georg-Straße and Alexanderstraße. What is new is that guests will be required to enter the fenced party zone in future. In the past, buying a supporter’s cup was enough to get to the celebration, which has been privately organized and financed since 1999 and was considered Hesse’s largest music festival up to that point. “Without ticket sales, it just doesn’t work anymore,” was the motto when the program was presented, which is intended to bring significantly more life to the city from June 2nd to 5th.
