The Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival (SHMF) has already sold 90 percent of the tickets at half-time. After the first four weeks, 178,000 of a total of 197,000 places were occupied, the organizers announced on Friday. 150 of the 197 concerts are sold out. The same applies to 13 of the 17 events at the two children’s music festivals and the five music festivals in the country.
“I’m incredibly grateful for the great trust and enthusiasm shown in us,” said Artistic Director Christian Kuhnt. “Bringing people together and inspiring them to experience culture together is a central task of the SHMF – especially in these challenging times.” He was impressed by the euphoria and positive energy with which the visitors celebrated the events. This year’s London focus was received with curiosity, and Daniel Hope, as a portrait artist, quickly won the hearts of the public. “It can go on like this,” declared Kuhnt.
Germany’s largest classical music festival lasts until August 27th. In 2022, the festival attracted around 165,000 visitors with 203 concerts and events. The occupancy rate was 84 percent. In the last year before Corona, 2019, there were 193,000 visitors and 91 percent. According to the organizers, the budget for the festival is around twelve million euros. The state of Schleswig-Holstein is adding a good 1.2 million euros. Contracts with sponsors as well as donations and grants secure the financing.
