Schlein to the government on migrants: ‘Now in Albania dismantle everything and apologise’

“Now” in Albania “you have to dismantle everything, go back and apologize to the Italians”. Thus the direction of the Democratic Party at the Nazarene was opened. With the Democratic secretary Elly Schlein who still talks about migrants, after the debate the day before also at the party headquarters on the topic of immigration. The dem leader attacks the majority for the failed management in Albania: “The entire mechanism does not stand up. Even before the court’s ruling a short while ago they had to bring back four people, two fragile ones and two minors. We have always said so. It is unthinkable to identify minors and vulnerable people on a ship.”

Schlein to the government on migrants: ‘Now in Albania dismantle everything and apologise’

“The Immigration section of the Court of Rome did not validate the detention of migrants inside the Italian detention center for the repatriation of Gjader to Albania – he continues -. We said it, not because we are visionaries but because we read the laws. Now I I address the Government and the President Giorgia Meloni: stop. Stop and go back as you are forced to bring back 16 people whom you have ignobly deported to Albania spending 18 thousand euros each according to journalistic estimates, after for decades we have heard you barking against the 35 euros a day spent on reception in Italy “.

Schlein attacks: “Shame! More than a model: the agreement made with Albania is an illegal agreement, an agreement that violates international law. I thank the parliamentarians who went to the center yesterday.” The whole mechanism doesn’t stand up. This is 800 million wasted that could have been used for healthcare. There is damage to the state’s treasury.”

Then came the reply. Schlein states: “The fake moderate Tajani tells the judges ‘don’t stop the government from working’. The laws apply to everyone, especially the government: no one is above the laws, that was the absolute monarchy. The government must respect them , this government can only blame itself because it was pointed out in many quarters that the construction of the framework of this agreement was in conflict with international regulations, with European regulations, with national regulations, with our constitution which ensures to the foreigner who is not recognized i rights provided for by the same constitution the right to request asylum in the territory of the republic, and that (l’Albania, ed) is not the territory of the republic”.

The dem leader continues: “But I believe that above all we have been deaf to what we have tried to explain to him in recent weeks since 4 October, the ruling of the European Court of Justice to which I was referring. It is clear that it is all very discretionary , a political evaluation on which is a safe or unsafe third country, but the court of justice has expressed itself clearly on this, so it is not clear who they are picking on at the moment, because the national judges are required to comply with European jurisprudence that applies legislation European”.

For Schlein “we have not only seen this arrogant attitude in these hours, in these events and in these declarations, unfortunately we have seen it since I have been in government. We see it and we have seen it with the approval of the terrible security decree which succeeds to be even worse than some provisions of the Rocco Code”.

Back and forth with the prime minister

“I think that the decision of the judges in Rome is prejudicial, as demonstrated by the fact that some of these judges had criticized the agreement with Albania even before entering into the merits. And I fear that it must also strike the fact that this decision of the judges was anticipated yesterday by some representatives of the Democratic Party”. Thus the Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni at a press point in Beirut.

The reply from the dem secretary was not long in coming: “President Meloni, I saw that you are currently on a mission in Lebanon and instead of taking care of giving Italy’s contribution to building a path of peace, today you attacked the judiciary from there, the oppositions and the role they play in legislative assemblies. I tell you clearly: we will not be intimidated. And I will explain it to you once and for all: we do not anticipate the decisions of the magistrates. We simply read the laws and sentences of the European Court of Justice, which I also explained to you in the courtroom a few days ago”.

Meloni’s rejoinder: “Dear Italians, this is the text with which the PD parliamentarians elected to the European Parliament ask Europe to open a formal infringement procedure against Italy. Your representatives who define a measure voted by the Italian Parliament as ‘illegal’ only because they do not agree with it. Your representatives who propose that Italy be punished, because the majority of its citizens have chosen the center-right to govern the nation and have asked the government to stop mass illegal immigration.”

Thus the prime minister on X, posting the text of the Democratic Party’s request. “These – he adds – are the ‘democrats’ who, against the will of the majority of Italians, ask for external support to force Italy not to respect the will of the majority of its citizens. Simply scandalous and irresponsible behavior. And there is no ‘neither right nor left enters: the only thing that matters is that they are willing to damage the whole of Italy in order to strike a government they don’t like.’
