(ANSA) – ROME, MAY 05 – “I have already said that many of the Democratic Party will sign just as others will not. I put myself among those who will. I couldn’t do otherwise given that it is a qualifying point of the motion with which I won primaries last year.” This was announced surprisingly by Elly Schlein, secretary of the Democratic Party, on the sidelines of the Vecchiazzano Unity festival in Forlì, speaking of the banquet that the CGIL is holding there to collect signatures for the referendum against the Jobs Act. “Now the Democratic Party is busy in the European elections campaign, on the administrative elections, and on another signature collection that is very important for us, which is that for the minimum wage”. “I want to remind you what our proposal consists of – underlined Schlein regarding the minimum wage – a proposal of civility. A proposal that says that under 9 euros is not work, it is exploitation, and cannot be legal. A proposal that asks for strengthen collective bargaining, precisely the one on which the unions make so much effort but which too often see themselves undermined by pirated contracts signed by organizations that are not truly representative of workers”. “So even if Giorgia Meloni continues to turn her face the other way and trample on the rights of 3 million poor workers, the Democratic Party will continue and collect signatures for a popular initiative law on the minimum wage to challenge the government, to see if even with the thousands of citizens’ signatures they will have the courage to void the proposal that we have already brought to the Chamber with the opposition”.
