Schiphol: canceling flights did not succeed, again take into account crowds

Schiphol is struggling with staff shortages in many different places. In addition, there are many passengers due to the May holidays. The airport had asked airlines to cancel flights, but only KLM actually complied. Corendon moved one flight to Rotterdam, EasyJet did not cancel any flights from Schiphol.

Long queues

About 70,000 departing passengers are expected to pass through security gates today, 10,000 more than on Saturday. At that time it was already very busy at the airport and there were long queues at the check-in counters. People sometimes had to wait up to two hours before they got through security.

Schiphol calls on people to be at the airport on time and to take into account that it is very busy. This morning there are long queues, but according to a spokesperson it will continue.

IATA, the international trade association of airlines, previously said it was outrageous that Schiphol asked airlines to cancel flights due to the expected crowds. The trade association said it understood that Schiphol is suffering from staff shortages, but underlined that companies pay airport charges to Schiphol for a reason.
