In order to cope with the large crowds at Schiphol, the airport has asked airlines to take measures. It is requested to cancel part of the bookings from this weekend until 8 May and not to accept new bookings.
By canceling flights, the number of departing passengers can be reduced. “It is an annoying but necessary measure to reduce the numbers of travelers, in order to manage the crowds in the right direction together with our partners,” says a Schiphol spokesperson.
Schiphol advises travelers who have booked a flight this weekend to contact their airline with questions about their flight.
Safety at risk
It’s been the past few days very busy at the airport. Last Saturday, the first day of the May holiday, KLM baggage staff went on strike and it became so crowded in the terminals that safety was at stake. A number of flights were canceled and passengers were urgently requested not to come to Schiphol anymore.
