Police and the medical watchdog have busted a scheme to misuse state social security funds. This was announced by the Ministry of the Interior, quoted by BTA.
The employees of the “Economic Police” department in the General Directorate of the “National Police” have started the investigation following a report of misuse of funds after issuing false sick leaves, submitted by the National Insurance Institute (NII).
In the course of the investigation, it was established that the name of a civil servant from the National Institute of Health, who was never part of such a structure, was included in the composition of the general medical commission of a medical center in Sofia, with a branch in Pernik, and in this way it was carried out and misuse of his personal data.
It was established that for the period from February 16, 2015 to November 4 of this year the commission issued a total of 5,805 sick leaves for temporary incapacity for work.
For 2023 alone, the amount paid by the public insurance for the sick leaves issued by the medical center was BGN 1,404,611. by employees of the “Economic Police”, with the participation of the control bodies of the “Medical Supervision” Executive Agency, data was collected about a crime committed – false and false documents and hospital sheets for temporary incapacity were issued.
