Beijing, Bolong.Id – The Chinese Observatory, Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO) recently released the results of monitoring gamma-ray bursts (Gamma-Ray Burst / GRB) from galaxies.

Reporting from CGTN, Friday (17/11/2023) the LHAASO team, led by the Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP) from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, reported in the journal Science Advances.

GRBs are explosions in distant galaxies and are the most luminous electromagnetic events since the Big Bang.

LHAASO recorded GRB 221009A in October last year with photon energies exceeding 10 TeV, marking a milestone in GRB research.

The findings represent a challenge to the standard GRB model and indicate there may be more complex particle acceleration mechanisms.

In addition, the energy spectrum measured by LHAASO questions the standard radiation model of GRB afterglow, providing new insights for the evaluation of galaxy formation and evolution, and providing important information for testing Einstein’s theory of relativity and physics.

LHAASO, located in China’s Sichuan Province, is the world’s largest and most sensitive ultra-high-energy cosmic ray observatory.
