The Free State of Saxony has been securing film, video and sound treasures since 2019. Since then, 1,800 films, audio documents and local TV programs with a total running time of 52,000 minutes and a data volume of 88 terabytes have been digitized and cataloged.

A selection of them can now be seen every evening between 4 and 11 p.m. in the culture shop window on Pirnaischer Platz / corner of Wilsdruffer Straße.

The films are projected onto the windows on the upper floor and can therefore only be seen from a distance – no one has to press their noses together closely with others.

Among other things, amateur recordings from the Hirsch-Film Dresden archive will be shown, providing insights into everyday life in the 1930s – for example at Christmas in those days or walks on the frozen Elbe.

Also on view are cine films from the Staatskapelle’s band tours, which the solo violist Alfred Schindler recorded with a handheld camera from 1955 to 1983.
