Schalke: Will Mark Uth move to 1. FC Köln for free?

S04

FC Schalke has to get several big earners off the payroll in order not to have more problems in the 2nd Bundesliga. Mark Uth is one of them, his move could soon be clear.

Mark Uth and the FC Schalke – somehow that never worked. Hardly anything would succeed on his first attempt. There were eight appearances in the first half of last season – Uth did not want to score a goal or an assist. He switched to on loan in the winter 1. FC Cologne, there he blossomed. Five goals and six assists helped the FC keep their league mission.

In the summer we went back to Gelsenkirchen. The outcome is known. Instead of a second attempt, many things just got worse. Schalke was relegated without a trace, Uth himself had three goals and one assist in 20 games. In addition to the meager record, Uth even had to digest anger with the fans. After the 0: 1 in Bielefeld, on the day the relegation was perfect, Schalke was welcomed by fans at the home arena. The meeting ended with raging supporters and hunting scenes, Uth also had to flee, his car was destroyed that evening.

No wonder that both sides have little interest in further cooperation, after all, Uth should earn four million euros a year, probably also in the 2nd Bundesliga. Therefore, a solution is being sought that could lead the offensive player to 1. FC Köln again.

Because as the “Express” reports, all parties are on the home stretch in the transfer. According to the report, Schalke should be willing to forego a transfer fee, Uth would accommodate the Cologne team on the subject of salaries.

The only question mark: Will something change at FC after the departure of sports boss Horst Heldt? He had previously conducted the transfer talks and has been released from his duties since Sunday.

Update: On Monday, FC Managing Director Alexander Wehrle confirmed that the Uth topic was going to be hot: “We’ve been in intensive discussions over the past few weeks and we’ve come a long way. The player is interested in coming to FC.”
