The first ERIMA Volleyball Cup took place from Friday to Sunday in the SMS Linz-Kleinmünchen. Host Oberbank STEELVOLLEYS Linz-Steg was already in good shape four weeks before the start of the championship and celebrated a 3:1 victory against MÁV Előre SC (HUN). Kanti Schaffhausen (SUI) won the tournament with two victories. Kralovo Pole Brno (CZE) completed the field of participants.
The teams had plenty of opportunity to put their newly formed squads to the test. Jakub Brecka, coach of the Linz team: “Almost everyone got the same amount of playing time and did their job very well. We were able to bring the Hungarians to their knees thanks to a great service performance. Schaffhausen plays a level above us and also has seven legionnaires in their squad. On Sunday we narrowly lost the second set against Brno after a hard fight, but unfortunately we lost a bit of steam after that. Overall, I’m still very satisfied.”
STEELVOLLEYS chairman Roland Atzmüller was satisfied with the ERIMA Volleyball Cup premiere: “We want to establish this tournament and make it a fixture in the preparation program. The feedback from the teams was very good, so the start was successful. Many thanks to ERIMA, the city of Linz and the Sportland Upper Austria for their support. We are already looking forward to the ERIMA Volleyball Cup 2025.”
The Linz team will continue with tournaments in Toggenburg (SUI) and at MÁV Előre SC.
